Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about Gloss / Toner.

A gloss/toner generally lasts 4–6 weeks on most hair, sometimes up to 8 weeks. Longevity depends on hair porosity, shampoo frequency, water hardness, and styling heat. Use color-safe products and cool rinses to maximize results between salon visits.

No — glosses and toners are semi-permanent and only deposit pigments without lifting natural color. They refresh tone and shine but fade gradually with washing, so they won’t permanently alter your base color or hair structure.

Yes — glosses and toners are often ideal for bleached or chemically treated hair to neutralize brassiness, add shine, and close the cuticle. Your stylist will choose a gentle formula to protect delicate strands while improving tone.

Often we can apply a gloss or toner during the same appointment to perfect shade and finish. However, if you’ve had aggressive lightening or your hair is fragile, your stylist may recommend waiting one to two weeks for optimal hair health.

Use sulfate-free, color-safe shampoo and conditioner, wash with cool water, and limit washing frequency. Apply UV protection and occasional at-home gloss or conditioning mask. These steps preserve tone, prevent premature fading, and keep hair luminous between salon visits.

A gloss/toner can temporarily soften the contrast of gray or regrowth and help blend it with your existing shade, but it doesn’t provide permanent gray coverage. For significant regrowth, a targeted root touch-up or permanent color is recommended.
